| Discovering the Rhineland |
| 16 July 2010 |
On the 7th of July at 23:30 Year 9 left on the bus, beginning the much anticipated Rhineland trip. The Rhineland is the name of the area in Germany that the river Rhine runs through. It’s a beautiful place and Year nine thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

On the Friday 9th July we went to Marksburg castle in Koblenz. Marksburg Castle is the only medieval castle on the Rhine that has never been destroyed. In the afternoon we went on the Boppard chairlift which took us up over a distance of 1,000m showing us the beautiful views of the Rhine.
On Saturday 10th July we visited Koblenz where we saw where the river Rhine and the Mosel flowed together. We then visited the Koll & cie vineyard in Cochem where we sampled the local wine. We also tried 100% grapeguice which was so nice that many of us bought more than one bottle!
Sunday 11th July was the day everyone was looking forward to: Phantasialand. Phantasialand is the German equivalent of Oakwood and it was simply incredible. There is something for everyone there and it was, in my opinion the best day of the trip. Everyone enjoyed it immensely and I’m sure if given the chance every one of us would go back.

On Monday, the 12th July, We took the morning to visit Lorelei where we learnt the legend of the beautiful Rhine maiden who sat upon the rock and lured passing navigators to their doom with her alluring singing. The rock is 120 meters above the waterline and at the narrowest part of the river Rhine. We then moved on to visit the town of R üdesheim, where we stopped in at the Siegfried’s Musikkabinett Museum and learnt about the history of the instruments. We all loved listening to the old music and the amazingly built instruments! We ended the day by going onto St Goarshausen for a boat trip to Boppard. The view of the Rhine on the boat was beautiful in the warm weather and blue skies.

On the Tuesday, our final full day in Germany, we went on a day visit to Trier, the oldest town in Germany. We went to the roman amphitheatre, one of the only three in Germany. Being able to walk around the amphitheatre and see the grounds was fascinating, to see where major historical events happened. We ended our final evening by having a night out at the Bowling centre in Koblenz. It really did end our last night on a high!
So on the 14th July, we left our hotel, Hotel Anker and set off on the road at 7.00am to return to the school at 22.00pm that night. We all had a fantastic time in Germany, and we’ll never forget it. We’d like to say a huge thank you to our teachers on the trip, Mrs. Green, Mr. Cox, Dr. Sabubba, and Miss. E John. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much, no matter how tired we all were! It’s been an unforgettable experience I think we’ll all remember forever, so thank you!
