K.O. Cup Cardiff and Vale Schools held at Leckwith International Stadium, Cardiff

1st Round

Cowbridge Comprehensive School v Whitchurch Comprehensive School, Stanwell Comprehensive School, Fitzalan Comprehensive School and St. Richard Gwyn

The 1st round was held at Leckwith International Stadium, Cardiff where the school put up a very high class performance in winning the team event by 51 points. Two new records were broken by Tom Trotman, year 7 in the 200 metres, 26.3 seconds and George Griffiths in the long jump, increasing his own record from 5m, 54cms to 5m, 95cms.

K.O. Cup Finals

Having qualified for this 8 team final event, the school team were hopeful of a good performance to reach the Welsh Cup Finals in Brecon. This they did convincingly, winning by 30 points. Three more school records were broken by Tom Trotman year 7 in the 200 metres increasing his own personal record from the previous week by 0.3 seconds to 26.00 seconds.

The year 8 Relay record of 50.00 seconds has stood for 22 years but the quartet of Harri Dowell-Bennett, Tom Trotman, Josef Gaughan and Captain George Griffiths took 1.10 seconds off to record an outstanding time of 48.9 seconds.

The High Jump record has stood for 24 years of 1.52 metres by Ceri Payne but Tom Trotman increased that by 6 cms to 1.58 metres.

Well done to all athletes in their top performances!

The boys now look forward to the Welsh Finals in Brecon on Wednesday July 7th.

Junior Championships Held at Leckwith International Stadium, Cardiff.

Several Year 8 pupils competed with Year 9 in these Junior Championships and were very successful.

This was a new school record, beating the Glamorgan Cricketer Ben Wright by 20cms.

Josef Gaughan and George Griffiths have been selected to represent the county at the Welsh Schools Championships.

 

Sport: Year 7 Sports Day
Year Group: Year 7

Due to the Normandy visit, Year 7’s had their own sports day on the lower school fields at Cowbridge.

In the girls events Elly Eddie Williams completed the sprint double winning the 100m (14.3) and 200m (33.5). Nadine James won the 800m (3.05) from Alice Tudor (3.10) and Eve McGoven won the hurdles (12.8) from Ellie Medlicott (13.7)

In the jumps Laurie Thomas won the long jump (3.45) and Brooke Langton Cryer the high jump (1.25). In the throws Hannah Lister Sims won the javelin (18m03), Paige Williams (7.30) shot putt and Megan Mcnamee the discus (18.90). The red team won the relay convincingly. In the girls team results the red team came 1st (221), 2 nd yellow (204), 3rd Blue (162), Green 4th (154).

In the boys events Tom Trotman won the 100m in 134. The 200m was won by Joseph Treharne (30.4). The 80m was won by Christian Jones in 2m52.4 who also won the hurdles in 11.6. Tom Trotman had a busy day also winning the high jump in 1m45, the long jump with 4m40 and the shot putt with 9m15. Michael Milarney won the javelin 25m09 and Dan Oddy the discus 18m70.

In the relay the Red (Tusker) team took a surprise win from the Yellow (Dunraven) team.

The boys team event was closely won by Yellow (208), 2nd Red (205), 3rd Green (203), 4th Blue (174), Yellow only won by winning more individual results, overall putting the girls and boys team events together.
