Our Vision of ICT
21 January 2010

This vision is a product of discussions and input by:

  • members of staff;
  • pupils;
  • governors;
  • stakeholders from the local community.

Core Objective:

To place ICT at the heart of the school.

Aspirations

  • To establish an integrated Virtual learning Environment (Sharepoint).
  • To develop the level of off site learning accessible for learners.
  • To trial new ICT approaches, identifying new ways and approaches that support our key objectives as a school.
  • To further develop staff knowledge, application and familiarity with a range of ICT applications
  • To explore community-learning platforms accessible to all in our community through our VLE and other options potentially accessible in school.

Approaches

We want to push the boundaries of ICT use within school, pursue a new culture of media rich learning in which ICT is used in exciting ways to underpin all our learning and teaching. We are determined that our use of ICT should not have a short shelf life and that our systems are designed to be sufficiently flexible and adaptable in anticipation of future changes, securing the learning inheritance of future generations of students.

Personalising learning

Moving towards a learner centred and personalised culture lies at the heart of our school development process. We want learners to be able to learn in a variety of ways, maximising the opportunities of new technology and approaches to learning. One aspect of this is the provision of a “learn anywhere anytime” culture, where learners can access resources at any time and engage in relevant ands meaningful work.

Supporting Standards

We see that ICT offers the opportunity for new learning techniques in support of raising standards. We want to ensure that all our learners have the facility to develop and apply new skills, with access to a wide range of resources in an environment, which is conducive to learning.

Promoting efficiency

ICT processes have already started to make an important impact on the way in which we manage information and data. We want to ensure that information management processes provide the greatest degree of support to our learners, generation efficiencies in support of focussed spend on learning support.

Sharing knowledge and information

Our commitment is to place ICT at the heart of our school in support of learning. A key part of this is ensuring that the benefits of knowledge gathering and sharing are available to all. We intend to provide access to information and support that extends beyond the specifics of our curriculum and provides focus for positive contributions to our community and our society.

Empowering learners

We see ICT at the heart of our school empowering learners to develop, improve and grow. We believe that access to the benefits of ICT is a community entitlement and a key driver for the future success of our economy and society. By placing this at the heart of our education vision we aim to offer support to all learners.

Other points to consider (from Vale of Glamorgan draft ICT Learning Strategy)

Strategic aims;

  • To use ICT to provide a high quality experience for learners;
  • To enable this by ensuring that ICT is embedded across the curriculum;
  • To develop the use of ICT by stakeholders in learning (learners, staff and parents);
  • To support collaboration and smooth transition between phases;
  • To promote improved management and administration, and to free up human resources.
  • To provide a seamless, anytime – anywhere service and increased access to ICT;
  • To achieve financial sustainability through ICT.

Points to consider from BECTA publications:

A school’s vision for ICT should be driven by the potential to improve teaching, learning and achievement rather than by the technology itself. The question to ask is not “what resources do we have?” but “how do we use our resources effectively to enhance the education of our pupils?”
