Sports Reports 14th December 2009
14 December 2009

Sport: Hockey - Year Group: 11
Date: 8th December 2009

On Monday 6th December, Cowbridge year 11 hockey team played a friendly match against Porthcawl. With Katie Howson injured, Bethan Moorcraft stepped in as captain. With one player short Cowbridge still put up a good game. Unfortunately Cowbridge conceded a goal in the first half as the weather became worse. Cowbridge stayed strong and attacked leading to an equaliser (Molly Llewellyn scoring). In the second half tiredness was showing and unfortunately Porthcawl had a lucky strike letting the score go to 2-1. Cowbridge carried on the counter attack making several strikes on goals but unfortunately lost letting an easy goal finish the well worked match.

There was a vast improvement from Sophie Dando & Amy Taylor dispersing the ball for the wings to attack and some excellent play from Bethan Moorcraft.

Sport: Netball - Year Group: 7
Date: 9th December 2009

On Wednesday December 9 th, the year 7 netball girls played against Llantwit Major Comprehensive School. Cowbridge played 3 ten minute games to give as many girls a go and to enable both schools to try out different combinations.

Cowbridge got off to a very strong start. Ellie Medlicott played her first game as WA and together with Megan McNamee at C fed some very accurate feeds into the circle to enable Kim Jerwood at CA and Emily Davies at GS to secure a 4-0 lead. In the second part of the game the defence of Yasmin Evans GK, Nia Wornham-Price at GD and Lily Morris at WD fought hard to keep the Llantwit girls from scoring, however their new addition at GS brought height and energy to the game enabling them to get onto the scoreboard and the second game finished 7-2 to Cowbridge. The last section of the game Lowri Allen played WD for Cowbridge & made some excellent interceptions to ensure that Cowbridge maintained possession. Despite an excellent fight back from the Llantwit girls, the game finished 9-6 to Cowbridge.

An excellent team performance. Well done girls!
