Sport: Hockey -Senior Year Group
23rd November 2009
Cowbridge Senior hockey team bounced back from a hammering against Radyr & Howells in the Cardiff & Vale tournament where the team could only field 9 players to drawing 0-0 against Porthcawl. There was some excellent attack work by Megan Allman, Georgia Evans and Molly Llewellyn in the first half but Porthcawl defence were too good & likewise Cowbridge’s defence of Bethan Moorcraft & Charlotte Thomas stopped any chances from the Porthcawl attack. Megan Allman unfortunately took a ‘superman’ style fall and had to go off but this didn’t stop the new attack of Sophie Browning & Alice Thomas attacking well but again could not get anything through. The game was a fair thought out contest by the two teams.
Player of the Match: Bethan Moorcraft
Sport: Hockey - Year 9
24th November 2009
Cowbridge Year 9 hockey team played Brynteg in an exciting game. The game started first with the teams looking evenly matched where Brynteg’s attack were stopped by Cowbridge’s defence; in particular Mairi Boxall & Emma Dando. Cowbridge’s attacks were stopped by Brynteg’s defence.
Brynteg were first to score after a break & the goal was deflected off player of the match goal keeper Jessical Jones’ foot! However, the combination of Angharad Davies & goal scorer Hannah Taylor in the attacking circle ensured it was 1-1 at half time. In the second half Brynteg were first to score but Liz Whitehouse solely scored from a massive hit just outside the attacking circle to ensure a 2-2 draw before the match finished due to losing the light.

Sport: Hockey - Year 7
26th November 2009
Cowbridge year 7 hockey team played Porthcawl in their first full size match. Due to so many players, Cowbridge put up a new team. Hannah Lee stepped into the goal keeper’s role and performed well for her first match as did Rebecca Thomas as sweeper, Megan Thorne in defence, Alice Tudor in centre midfield and Sion Dimblebee in attack. Unfortunately Cowbridge lost 1-0 from a second half goal.
An excellent first performance.

Sport: Netball - Year Group: 8 & 9
23rd November 2009
Cowbridge Netball teams faced Stanwell at home on Monday November 23rd. The year 8 A team got off to a solid start in a very evenly matched game, taking the score to 3-3 at half time. In the second half, an early goal from Jo Wilkins enabled Cowbridge to take the lead and outstanding interceptions from Sarah Lewis at GK ensured they held their lead until full-time. The game ended 5-4 to Cowbridge.
Player of the Match: Annabel Curle (C)
The year 8 B team got off to a slow start and despite some excellent linking play between Lilli Evans & Jordan Carpenter at WA & C, Cowbridge could not put the goals away and trailed 4-0 at half-time. Cowbridge’s defence picked up in the second half with a few at WD. Unfortunately Stanwell were too strong and Cowbridge conceded the game 6-0.
Player of the Match: Immy Miller (GK)
The year 9’s got off to a flying start with Hannah Taylor scoring goals at every available opportunity to take the score to 9-1 at half time. Despite an initial lull at the beginning of the second half, in which Cowbridge conceded 3 goals on the trot, the strong defence of Caitlin Allin at GD and Bethan Sloane at GK ensured Stanwell were quickly stopped in their tracks. Two extra goals for Mairi Boxall in the second half took the final score to 11-5 to Cowbridge. A great win. Well done girls.
Player of the Match: Liz Whitehouse (C)
