Sport: Badminton
Date: November 2009

Cardiff & Vale Schools Badminton Singles Championships Held at the Welsh Institute of Sport, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff  

Cowbridge School entered 48 pupils for the auunual event which was started back in 1976. All matches are in group stages with winners and runners up going through to main tournament. All other players go into the plate competition.

Under 18 Boys

Huw Williams lost in ¼ Final 21-16
Jack Scanlan and Dayle Painter lost in 1st round K.O.


Under 18 Girls

Sabrina James lost 21-15 ¼ Final
Sara Edwards lost semi final
Emily Renwick lost semi final

Katie Bradbury lost to Jordan Guard in Final 21-16, 21-14.

Under 15 Boys

Harley Wilkinson & Chris Brace lost in ¼ Final of Plate. Rhys Mallows won the Under 15 Boys Singles.

Year 8 Rugby v Brynteg Comprehensive School Bridged A Team

Playing away to one of the largest comprehensive schools in Wales is always a challenge. In one of the best quality games of rugby played this season, year 8 were always under pressure for the whole game. Players having to make key decisions all the time under pressure. Losing 7-5 at half time, the Cowbridge boys kept their discipline and patience in the 2 nd half to win 17-7 at the end of a very entertaining match.

B Team

Playing against much bigger opponents Year 8 B Team gave their all but in the end lost 29-10.

Both teams played again 4 days later at Llandaff School, Cardiff.
A Team had another very close game losing 10-7 at half time but again kept their discipline to win 19-10 at the final whistle.

Sport: Hockey Year 10
Date: 10th November 2009

Cowbridge Year 10 Hockey Team travelled to Porthcawl with one player missing. This didn’t stop the girls from putting in an excellent performance. Great attacking work from Sophie Gallagher, Captain Rachel Bradshaw and Romy Killick ensured an early lead for Cowbridge with Romy scoring. Next goal was scored by Rachel Bradshaw with Porthcawl scoring shortly after making the half time score 2-1.

In the second half there was a succession of goals first for Cowbridge by Coryn Sexton, then Porthcawl making the score 3-2. Romy Killick was next to score to make it two goals in the match with Porthcawl scoring again from a mistake by the defence. Rachel Bradshaw then solely took the ball into the attacking circle and scored ensuring a 5-4 win for Cowbridge.

Player of the match was Laura Smith who put in a good performance in defence.

A high scoring exciting match. Well done to the team.

Sport: Seniors - Netball

The Senior Netball Team played Llantwit Major Comprehensive School Year 11 Team. Llantwit Major are a strong team with accurate and efficient skills, therefore Llantwit quickly racked up the goals. Cowbridge attack of Louise Edwards, Jordan Carpenter, Alice Thomas and Amy Goodfellow did well when they did gain possession. The final score was 13-5 to Llantwit.

Cowbridge then played Stanwell Comprehensive School after a good warm up against Llantwit. Cowbridge had the upper hand and won the first half 5-1. With this good lead they held off a comeback from Stanwell who won the second half 7-6 making the final score 11-8.

Date: 12th November 2009

Year 7 Football ¼ Final Regional Welsh Cup v. Llanishen High School Away.

Going behind to an early goal did not deter the Year 7 Boys when Tom Lucas playing up front scored a goal from 20 yards.

A missed timed clearance from defence gave Llanishen the lead again only for Tom Lucas to score a quality goal from 20 yards with his left foot this time. At half time the boys were confident.

A mistake by the defence let Llanishen in with 10 minutes to go but the Cowbridge boys kept going only to concede a late goal to lose 4-2.

Sport: Football - Year 7
Date: 12th November 2009

Year 7 Football v Fitzalan High School – 1st round Bluebirds Cup

The game was played at the Leisure Centre pitch and this suited the Year 7 Boys Team using the width with Kristian Jones on the left and Joe Davies on the right, getting in quality crosses. Captain Ben Jones finished off a cross into the box to lead 1-0 at half time.

Fitzalan had a few chances, but the Cowbridge defence of Owen Alexander, Ellis Rosser, Tom Day-Davies, Max Ragan and Goalkeeper Oliver Pyke kept a clean sheet.

Two excellent goals by mid fielder Tom Lucas gave Cowbridge a comfortable 3-0 win. They now look forward to the 2nd Round.

Year 7 Rugby v Stanwell Comprehensive School, Penarth League Match

In a quality game of running rugby where the Cowbridge boys kept possession very well denying Stanwell the ball in the first half, led 21-0 at half time.

A few changes were made which allowed Stanwell to become more competitive but Cowbridge won 48-0.
