Date: 5th November 2009

Disappointment for the Year 11’s

The year 11’s played in their preliminary round of the Cardiff & Vale County Tournament. In the past four years they have won the County Tournament. This year the star performer of the team, Welsh under 18 player Katie Howson was unable to play due to cruciate ligament damage to her knee on which she needs an operation. However, still with county player Bethan Moorcraft drafted into the team, the team had to play Llanishen, St. Cyres and The Cathedral School, with St. Cyres withdrawing from competition. Cowbridge played Llanishen in a 50 minute match. In the first half Llanishen had two opportunities to score but from great defence from Bethan Moorcraft and Sophie Dando and goal keeper Georgina Jackson stopped their attempts. Cowbridge had just the one opportunity from a short corner where Montserrat Bray missed an open goal!

In the second half, Llanishen came out hard and fast and scored two goals from their strong centre forward player. A third goal for Llanishen cemented a winning performance for them. Rachel Bradshaw then scored a consolation goal where she single handed set up and scored the goal. A big disappointment for the girls in Year 11. Also, we would like to wish Katie a speedy recovery.

Player of the match was Rachel Bradshaw.

Sport: House Cross Country Year 7 & 8
Date: October 2009

Cowbridge School held their annual Inter house Cross Country Championships on the last day of the half term for Years 7 & 8. Middle School did not compete this year due to the building work.

In true cross country style, the weather turned very wet for the runners which made the underground conditions tough for the youngsters.

In the year 8 boys race, Josh Thomas was a clear winner in 5.03 minutes from Callum Jones and Tom Owen. In the team competition the blue house (Thor) came first with 46 points.

In the year 8 girls race, Annabel Curle who had won the title of South Wales Cross Country Champion the day before, had a runaway victory in 5.35 minutes winning by over 40 seconds from Joanna Wilkins and Niamh Gallagher. The green (Dunraven) house came first with 43 points.

In the year 7 boys race Kristian Jones won the race in 5 min 55 from Ellis Rosser and Huw Bennett. The green (Dunraven) house won by 1 point from the red (Tusker) house with 59 points.

In the year 7 girls race Eleanor Bishop won in 5mins 54 from Alice Tudor and Rebecca Thomas. The yellow (Nash) house won with 34 points.
