Vale Schools Year 7 Cup Final

Last years final held over to this season v Stanwell Comprehensive was played at Penarth. A few handling errors by the home side left Cowbridge in for 2 soft tries scored by Harri Dowell-Bennett.
Under pressure for the next quarter of the hour, the Cowbridge defence stood firm against a strong pack of forwards. Winning possession in their own 22 scored a further 2 tries one by George Griffiths and Harri Dowell-Bennett to lead by half time 26-0 with 3 conversions by Sean Rowland.
In the second half it still remained a contest with Stanwell forwards making the Cowbridge 8 work hard for possession. This possession was well used by the Cowbridge back line who possessed too much speed and scored further tries by Matthew Roberts, Harri Dowell-Bennett and Joshua Thomas (2).

Man of the match was Marc Herbert.
A good start to the season, but also a good end to last season where the team remained unbeaten.

1st XV Raise Performance Levels

The 1st XV Rugby Team put in a much improved performance away to Brynteg in the Senior Saturday League. After the very poor opening display at Bro Morgannwg, the school side showed massive improvement in all areas of the game before losing 21-7 against the league favourites. Cowbridge had many opportunities to increase the pressure on Brynteg but made some poor decisions at vital points in the game. Reuben Tucker was outstanding for the school side and showed exactly why he was an International Player last season and member of the Blues under 18 squad this season.
Captain Tom Howson lead by example and there were very good performances from Will Thomas at hooker, Ben Smith on the second row and Tom Harrison at centre.
The school will play the first home game of the season when they welcome Llantwit to Cowbridge.

On Wednesday September 23 rd, the Year 8 netball teams made their way up to Middle school for some in-house matches. Due to the vast number of pupils wishing to play netball this year, a friendly 8A v 8B & 8C v 8D fixture was made. As a result from some excellent shooting from Hannah Woodwood at GA, the ‘A’ team beat the ‘B’s 15-1. The ‘C’ team also triumphed beating the ‘D’s 6-1. It is very encouraging to see so many girls keen to participate for the school netball teams.
Thanks go to Mrs Eynon for help with this fixture.

On Wednesday September 23rd, our Year 10 & 11 netaball teams travelled to Bro Morgannwg for a match with Bro Morgannwg & Llantwit.
The Year 10 got of to a fine start, beating Llantwit 5-1, with Katie Wynne being named as Player of the Match. In the next, lower scoring match, they then lost to a skilful Bro Morgannwg team 1-3, Rachel Bradshaw was named Player of the Match.
The Year 11’s began with a very evenly matched game against Bro Morgannwg which ended in a 6-6 draw. They then came up short to a very strong and skilful Llantwit team, losing 5-10. Molly Williams, Katie Bradbury & Verity Morgan were highlighted as strong players during both games for their attacking play.
Well done to both teams.
A big thank you to Mr Walsh who helped driving the girls to the fixture at short notice.

The Year 8 & 9 netball teams played away at St. Richard Gwyn on Monday 28th September. The Year 9 girls got off to an excellent start, with Amy Wallis, Liz Whitehouse, Nancie Edwards & Mairi Boxall working solidly in attack. The defence of Bethan Sloan, Caitlin Allin & Georgie Usher worked tirelessly making some great interceptions but unfortunately just came up short, losing 5-7.
The Year 8 team got off to a flying start, with Hannah Woodwood and Joanna Wilkins scoring from all areas of the circle. Together with some excellent defence from Georgia Lott, Lydia Hitchings, Olivia Brown & Sarah Lewis, and with some great linking play from Annabel Curle at centre & Amy O’Donnell at wing attack, the shooters were able to continue with their fine form to finish the game winning 9-3. An excellent team performance by all players.
Thanks to Mr Griffiths for his assistance in driving the girls to their fixture.
