Two teams were selected to play Whitchurch Comprehensive School, after 50 year 7 boys from Cowbridge took part in trials. Travelling in 2 school minibuses, the year 7 A/B teams looked forward to their 1 st game in Cowbridge School Colours.
The A Team played a big Whitchurch side but struggled to win clear ball at the break downs. Good passing skills in open spaces saw Tom Trotman (captain) score 3 tries on his debut, with Kristian Jones scoring one on the left wing. Matthew Harper converted one, eventually winning 24-10. The B Team played very well in their 1 st game but bigger forwards by the opposition helped them to score 4 tries to1, the Cowbridge scorer being Ellis Rosser. Cowbridge year 10 hockey team played their first game of the season against Bro Morgannwg. Meakah Powell and Anna Leyshon played their first hockey match for the school and performed well. Captain Rachel Bradshaw showed her class by scoring the first goal of the game. Unfortunately that was the only goal for Cowbridge whereas Bro Morgannwg scored 4 making the final score 4 – 1. However, goal keeper Sam Logue was excellent saving many more on target attempts.
The defence of Laura Smith, Katie Wynne and Laura Howells played well as a unit. Football player Coryn Sexton, Bronte Cowley, Sophie Gallagher and Romy Killick all played well but found it tough against Bro Morgannwgs defence. The girls played really well despite no training due to the new school being built on the old hockey pitch.

On the 23rd September year 9 hockey team played St. Cyres away and unfortunately on grass, which made it rather slippery! The game started with an early goal from Annabel Drew with a nice cross from Hannah Taylor. Then St. cyres really got into the game making it hard for the defenders Nancie Roberts-Smith, Elizabeth Whitehouse, Mairi Boxall, Anna Wynne, Miriam Bennet and Rebecca John. Jess Jones the goalkeeper saved a very good attempt at goal; regrettably this didn’t deter St. Cyres. Following nice stick work St. Cyres scored a goal making the score 1-1. Cowbridge midfielders did their best to push forward, with hard work from Hannah Taylor, Nancie Edwards, Bethan Sloan and Melissa Gooding. The midfielders managed to get the ball up to the attackers Angharad Davies, AnnabelDrew, Emma Housley and Katie Munro but unfortunately there wasn’t enough time left to score when the whistle blew with a score of 1-1.
