| 25 March 2009 |

Barnardo’s are running a counselling service for young people within Cowbridge Comprehensive school. Young people may choose to access to the service for a variety of reasons. These could include:
- Feeling lonely or depressed.
- Problems with daily life at school - such as bullying or making friends.
- Having problems with eating.
- Feeling sad due to loss or bereavement.
- Feeling depressed or down about things that are going on.
- Issues of self esteem, appearance and confidence.
- Feelings of fear or anxiety.
- Problems with things at home.
- Anger.
- Disability & SEN (Special Educational Needs)
- Managing / Coping with Health (i.e.) Administration of Medication, Stigma, Missing School because of Health Issues.
Young people will normally receive between 6 to 8 sessions with a qualified counsellor. Sessions will last for around 50 minutes. Young people will be encouraged to talk through their concerns, at their chosen pace and style and to find mechanisms of support and capabilities to deal with the issues that are worrying them. Counsellors will work with the young person to find positive steps to move forward, and to build on their strengths and abilities to find solutions to their concerns.
All counsellors will receive clinical supervision and line management to ensure best practice in the service.
