Cardiff Cross Challenge

Some of Cowbridge’s students competed for the Cardiff and Vale Cross Country Team in the Cardiff Cross Challenge at Bute Park. In proper cross country conditions, with rain making the ground heavy underfoot, the students all faired well.

In the Year 7 girls’ race, Annabel Curle was a very credible 34th place. In the Year 9 and 10 girls’ race, Fiona Bray was a very credible 35th place and the 3rd Cardiff and Vale girl home. Katie Wynne was 54th and Rachel Bradshaw 65th (coming 10th and 14th for Cardiff and Vale). They competed well.

Year 11 Netball

Cowbridge Year 11 netball team played Stanwell in their first game this year. A slow start meant that Stanwell opened up a big lead by half time, 6-1. In the second half Cowbridge were more aggressive on court but failed to make any impact on the final score line of 11-4. Emily Renwick was nominated as player of the match for her persistent hard work as goal defence.

The same team played in the Ann Smart Qualifying Tournament the following day. Taking on board some of the feedback from the Stanwell game the team played very well against Plasmawr. Although losing 8-5 the team had focused their game. In the second match of the tournament Cowbridge came up against a very tall, well conditioned skilful Whitchurch side that dominated in attack and never allowed Cowbridge to counter attack. Cowbridge losing 17-0 at full time.

Year 10 Netball

The Year 10 team also played Stanwell. At the end of the first half the score was 3-3, with some great defending by Rosie Dent and Bethan Moorcraft. In the second half, the strong attack of Molly Williams and Katie Howson played well with Verity Morgan and Katie Bradbury in the goal circle, ensuring a final winning score of 8-4. Molly Williams was voted player of the match.
