Cowbridge Comprehensive School is celebrating the publication of its ESTYN report following the school’s inspection in September. The school has been awarded the top grade in all seven key areas inspected. The inspection team found many areas of the life and work of the school to be “exceptional.” Highlighted for particular praise were the attitudes and achievements of the students, the very high quality of teaching, care and guidance and the range of opportunities provided throughout the school.
The report states that “Cowbridge Comprehensive is an outstanding school where pupils and students achieve exceptionally high standards as a result of excellent teaching and leadership. These standards are especially notable because they are achieved in poor accommodation that is not appropriate for the needs of modern learning and teaching.” In commenting on the standards achieved by students at all stages, the report concludes: “overall, as a result of the way in which individual pupils and students are monitored and cared for, this is a school where it is virtually impossible to fail.”
Margaret Evans, Headteacher, commented
“We are delighted that the report by ESTYN confirms this is an outstanding school which strives to provide the best quality education for all our students and which places care for the individual at the heart of all our efforts.”
Peter Lewis, Chair of Governors, commented
“The Governing Body is very pleased that our hard working students and highly committed staff have been given the recognition they deserve. We are also pleased that the report notes the determination of staff and governors not to allow our very poor and inadequate facilities to impair the quality of education provided.”
The school is currently working closely with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to provide new school buildings by September 2010.
