Opening Gala for the Cardiff International Festival
15 October 2006
Last weekend we took part in the Opening Gala of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre at St David’s Hall, where we presented a 20-minute excerpt of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Into The Woods’.

Our students were impeccably behaved and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of taking part in this prestigious event. I am very proud of them and have received a lot of very positive feedback from the organisers. The Chief Executive, Joanne Benjamin wrote to me commenting on the very high standard of the work. She said that during the performance the head of Weinbergers turned to her and said ‘this is incredible’. She told me that she agreed. I am sure you have seen the reviews in the Echo and Gem that I have swamped the Sixth Form with: they are all great!

I would like to thank all members of staff who helped in any way. I am particularly grateful to Liz Ahmed and Charlotte Robins who did a splendid job with the costumes and props. A big thank you to John Williams who, as always, played for us and helped in the musical direction throughout the rehearsal process.

I would like to mention one last thing and that is the letter I received from the Head of Kitchener Primary School thanking our students and staff for the way they helped their pupils with makeup for their animal characters in their production of Jungle Book. She commented in her letter that our students were such a good role model for their young people. You can’t ask for more than that can you?
