The under 14’s cricket team continued with their early good form when they played Barry School at home in the 2nd league match. Winning the toss, the school asked Barry to bat first and it took only 13 overs for the school to bowl out Barry for 24 runs. Best of the bowlers were the two leg spinners Michael Lloyd, James Thomas and James Purley who all gained two crickets. Lloyd Bishop bowled economically for his one wicket.
Tom Johnson was asked to open the batting in reply to see whether he could improve on his golden duck of the previous game. He responded magnificently to score 3 with opening partner Stuart Thomas who batted throughout for one run. It was left to some lusty hitting by James Thomas to finish the game quickly and a convincing 9-wicket victory.
The club under 15’s played their first league game of the season against Barry Cricket Club at home. Put into bat Elliot Swallow and Daniel Thompson reached the retiring score of 35 not out. Gareth Moorcraft with 19 runs gave Cowbridge a useful total of 115 for 15.
Excellent bowling by Gareth Moorcraft, Lloyd Bishop, James Purley, Harry Homan and James Thomas restricted the flow of runs. Barry needing ten and over at one time lost both opening bats even though Andrew Thomas earned his bat to a retired 35 not out. In the end the Barry team fell 31 runs short leaving Cowbridge victorious having gained seven of their opponents wickets. The club next play Whitchurch at home on Thursday 3rd June.

Rugby
James Harris and Harry Rees both year 13 pupils played their part for the Cowbridge G.O. boys 7½ team in the longest Welsh running 7’s competition – The old Penarthians Severns. Arriving late did not help their cause in the first hand with the Old Boys team leaving 14-10 to Rumney. In the plate competition there was an easy win against Sully and it all looked good at half time when leading Loughborough late tries eliminated the side for an early shower.
