On a glorious sunny Thursday afternoon the school 1st XL played their annual match against the XL Club at Cowbridge Cricket Club. Alex Jones (yr 11) and captain Adam George Weaver (yr 13) both international players opened the batting for the school. At 150-0 all looked rosy for the school. Alex was first out for 55 runs while Adam had reached 98 runs, but lost his head and his wicket when trying to hit the cover off the ball and off his PE teacher Glan Williams for a five hundred. Eventually the school declared a 212 for 7 wickets.
The XL club fell behind the scoring rate especially to the accurate bowling of Alex Jones and Arvind Singhal who both gained a wicket. The XL team had a hero of their own in M Staddon who steered his side back into contention with a fine 94 runs. He was ably supported by Alex Jones. Jones 34 runs and Captain Peter Docherty 32 runs. The XL club won a fine match played in the best of spirits and as Peter Hardwick quoted ‘Cricket was the winner’.
Our thanks to the year 13 boys for 7 years of service to the school. Namely Adam George-Weaver, Rhys Harris, Edward Bennett and Jamie Davies. Keep playing this fine game lads.
