| Children in Need 2004 |
| by Helen Cassidy |
 |
Friday 19th November was, of course, Children in Need day.
This British institution is celebrated and supported every year in the school, and every year the pupils give generously to help children less fortunate than themselves. |
| This year we raised over £725, with money still coming in from individual fundraisers.
The charity committee would like to thank everyone who took part, whether they gave up their time, their money or their dignity to help the cause. Most of the money was raised through the traditional and ever popular non school uniform day. We all enjoy being able to brighten up the school and find our friends (as they no longer blend into the cobblestone of B-block).
Additional events were arranged to provide some entertainment as Children in Need is, after all, about having fun while raising money for an extremely good cause. |
| Teachers Blind Date |
 |
The charity committee wanted to bring a little romance into this year’s fundraiser. Fortunately, four teachers kindly volunteered to take part in a “Teacher’s Blind Date” where one lucky member of staff would go on a “luxury” date with her choice of three hopeful male teachers. |
The three contestants responded with witty and often tuneful answers. Mr Williams tried to serenade her with a mixture of Scottish folk song and Welsh rugby chants whilst showing an abundance of French “joie de vivre”. Mr Ling promised her the stars and the sight of hi in a kilt, and Mr Lewis showed his romantic side with his starry-eyed vision of Paris.
After careful consideration Mrs Brown chose Mr. H. Williams to accompany her on a romantic lunch date at….the middle school canteen. Many thanks to Mrs J Brown, Mr H Williams, Mr J Ling and Mr O Lewis for taking part.

| Clash of the Senior Prefects |
At lunch time we watched “the clash of the senior prefects” where hosts Tim Jones and James Probert fired unanswerable questions at some of our finest students. Meanwhile three sixth formers really did fire water at anyone giving an answer regarded as obvious. In teams of girls vs. boys, the girls emerged the clear winners after clawing their way back from the shameful defeat in the pillow fight round.
Cowbridge Comprehensive school has a history of generosity when it comes to charitable giving. Children in Need was a huge success as, luckily, it always is.
It is clear that all pupils enjoy days like Children in Need where you can wear your own clothes and possibly see a few teachers very mildly humiliated, but we never lose sight of the reason we are having fun, and we never forget to make a donation during the day.
